Steamboy

I shouldn't have started watching Steamboy (Produced by Otomo ofAkira fame) so early in the morning. Why?

Because I can't stop thinking about it. Now it has not only ruined my sleep but has left me hypnotised with its brilliance.

In my opinion this is a masterpiece that everyone should witness. Especially animation students. It's so awe inspiring.

Furthermore, as far as anime goes, this is top notch material. I really admire the spectacular CGI that blends seamlessly with 2d animation. Then there were the numerous inventions that were present during the industrial revolution but enhanced into neat 'steampunk' designs. As well as the unforgettable cast of characters.

Wait there's more. Otomo also pays special heed to the environment and situations that the characters are involved in. It's those little details that I would've missed out on if I were directing that has baffled my senses. How does he lay out such a flow of behaviour?

Remember, I said that Steamboy is inspiring? I also find it to be disturbing and disheartening. It's not the film that has me feeling so. Rather it is the standard of animation in Singapore, particularly NYP... How do we get there? How do we achieve something as phenomenal as Steamboy or Akira?

The answer is: I don't know! It puts to shame, everything that I've done so far. Heh...I have soooooooooooooooo much more to learn. Maybe one day - my dream will come true.

Okay...I'm feeling really giddy right now so I better get some shut eye. Still thinking about cartoons...lol
