Going Under / Evanescence

Another vivid dream!

I dreamt that I was a boy who lived in a gothic village. Everyone was living in fear of a vampire who seemed invincible. Then there was a council who deemed that I was able to vanquish the dreaded evil and gave me a mystical sword which had the power to do it. It was a very unusual sword. It had intricate engravings and it was glowing with blue light. There was no sun and I came to a conclusion that the evil had cast a spell which blocked it out. Somehow I managed to drive the sword into the nosferatu's chest and he was defeated.

Oddly, the dream doesn't end there. I was transported to a parallel world. This world was facing the same problem. The medieval people were under the threat of another vampire. I didn't know why I was transported there but I had become a mentor for a boy who was chosen to be the wielder of the sword. It was coincidentally the same sword that had been plunged into the vampire in my other dream universe. We had a squire who tagged along. The three of us ventured into an eerie castle. It was void of any occupants. Just solid stonehewn walls that seemed to be taller than anything I've ever seen before.

I passed the boy a ring and told him that with it he could magically freeze his enemy. However I cautioned him that I didn't exactly know what effect it could have on the master. (I had gained knowledge that the vampire had a female underling. SO now there were two vampires.)

The boy seemed to be growing in confidence. Even the squire sang praises to him, saying how he easily the vampires would be eliminated under his sword. Suddenly we saw the female vampire in the foyer of the castle. The boy chased her and before she could do anything, he used the ring and sealed her in the binding spell. She was frozen!

Then the master appeared. I shouted to the boy to be careful and use the sword to strike him down. The boy was arrogant and ignored my warning. He used the ring's spell again only to find out that the master was immune to it. The master vampire gleefully tore off the ring and used it on the boy. He became a statue. Locked forever in suspension together with the only weapon capable of destroying the enemy.

I was devastated. Together with the squire, we fled for our lives. While climbing the castle stairs I reached the parapets and saw an opaque beige cloud with static lightning bursting from within. There I was alone on the highest floor, (the squire disappeared) I thought of how I had failed this universe and remember my own surreal reality. Then with the vampire closing in on me I jumped into the cloud.

PS: 1) I don't think the bad guys were vampires though. I had the impression that they were. 2) After jumping into the clouds, I gained consciousness. Now that I have the opportunity to give it some thought, I believe that I wasn't comitting suicide but trying to propel myself into the twin universe; the one which I had killed the vampire. So that I could retrieve the unique sword capable of defeating them.

DESTINY

Do you believe in fate?

I thought that destiny is what we make of it. But seeing Carrie Underwood and Liverpool triumph this week, I wonder if my convictions need a revision.

All the signs were pointing to a victory. Especially in the case of Liverpool. All those coincidences that happened years ago, chills me. Even though they were considered the underdogs of the competition.

Then there is Carrie. The country girl with big dreams that have just been realised. She is the American Idol 2005. Do you know what was the first thing I told myself when I saw her audition? This girl has destiny written all over her. You know, she has all the traits of a endearing fairytale. She's a farmgirl who had to travel miles literally to showcase her vocals. It doesn't mean that I'm a fan though. For either programmes.

Destiny sounds great. But what about those not chosen to lead a life tiled by prophecies? Are we helpless in leading a mundane life?

I don't want to accept that. Even if the odds are stacked against me, I will never give in to these chosen ones because I will make my own destiny. Heh... (Don't know why I'm suddenly thinking about this though.)

BTW, my left eye kept twitching on Wednesday. Ha ha ha

Wen Hao's BBQ

I haven't slept for 1 1/2 days. I just can't sleep.

I bought Rob Thomas's debut album and Love Psychedelico 3.

The BBQ was nice. The journey took approximately 2 hrs 15 mins. It was raining when I got home.

It's 1 53 am. I'm still not sleepy. Going to to try closing my eyes now.

Weird Dream

I had this surreal dream earlier in the evening. I was sitting on a bench opposite the glass display of Robinsons department store. At least that's what I had intrepreted from my residual memories.

Then I started consuming the mash potato that I had brought along for dinner. The scene was presumably set at night because it was dark. I sat there feeling morose and detached. I just stared glumly at the white manikin that was on sale. It looked so lifelike.

Too lifelike in fact as the manikin looked at my sad face and gave me a smile. It started moving like it was guided by invisible strings. It was just someone who was pretending to be a doll. He was wearing makeup and was flawless in his performance.

Afterwards, I finished eating my dinner and the model got out of the display and gave me some food. Suddenly he took the food away from me and walked off to the stairway (leading to the basement). He was still wearing his uniform and it seemed very kind of him to offer me food.

Minutes later he came back, without his uniform and makeup but he wasn't who I thought he was anymore! Does this make sense? He was actually a she. She was tall and was wearing a black blouse. She seemed quite embarrased. Here's the shocker, she was interested in me??? Ho ho ho, why can't I have more dreams like this...

PS: I didn't ask for her number...omg I'm so stupid ha ha ha

Steamboy

I shouldn't have started watching Steamboy (Produced by Otomo ofAkira fame) so early in the morning. Why?

Because I can't stop thinking about it. Now it has not only ruined my sleep but has left me hypnotised with its brilliance.

In my opinion this is a masterpiece that everyone should witness. Especially animation students. It's so awe inspiring.

Furthermore, as far as anime goes, this is top notch material. I really admire the spectacular CGI that blends seamlessly with 2d animation. Then there were the numerous inventions that were present during the industrial revolution but enhanced into neat 'steampunk' designs. As well as the unforgettable cast of characters.

Wait there's more. Otomo also pays special heed to the environment and situations that the characters are involved in. It's those little details that I would've missed out on if I were directing that has baffled my senses. How does he lay out such a flow of behaviour?

Remember, I said that Steamboy is inspiring? I also find it to be disturbing and disheartening. It's not the film that has me feeling so. Rather it is the standard of animation in Singapore, particularly NYP... How do we get there? How do we achieve something as phenomenal as Steamboy or Akira?

The answer is: I don't know! It puts to shame, everything that I've done so far. Heh...I have soooooooooooooooo much more to learn. Maybe one day - my dream will come true.

Okay...I'm feeling really giddy right now so I better get some shut eye. Still thinking about cartoons...lol

Fusion 2005

The annual Digital Media Design (DMD) showcase, Fusion was a chance for me to observe and discover the standard of our graduating students. It was, in less subtle terms, an opportunity to measure my abilities against the complete product. In reality, even though NYP DMD students are a close knit society, we are constantly competing for top grades and awards.

Everyone has a dream.

I think that the showcase is impressive and stylish but it's lacking substance. I know it sounds condescending, considering my own capacity of achievements. Sigh, its just my opinion...don't take my word for it. lol

All About You / McFly

Fan Fic

I was inspired by Shan shan's resident evil. So I decided to write a story based on zombies too. It's about a reporter who goes to uncover a story of a mad scientist who is trying to find the secret to longevity only to have his research debunked by the board of investors. In retaliation he goes underground, funded by a secret organization. He plays god only to have his experiments go awry.

heh...actually i made that up as i went. I have no plots...lol

This scene is actually not the beggining. Its somewhere in the middle, I think. Well whatever haha, hope you like it.

The Nearness Of You / Norah Jones

Saturday: Dorothy had some bought some tickets from her friend. They were tickets to a live performance of Stardom, which is an alternative talentime show organised by ITE colleges.

The performances had a wide gap of standard between the good and the bad. Which were at extreme ends of the scale. Some were cringeworthy. Others spectacular. I especially liked the trio of dancers who sizzled on stage with their breathtaking choreography.

I was kind of bored though for most of the debacle. I tried leaning over to zero then inez so that I could rest my head on either of their shoulders... haha then I got tossed around like a pinball. Wouldn't it be nice if i could lean my head on someone's shoulder and catch some ZZs?

heh...i need a job...hire me someone....
